Job description

Description: Blackbaud unleashes the potential of the people and organizations who change the world, and we're growing our team. As the leading software provider exclusively dedicated to fuelling social impact, you can expand what is possible across the nonprofit and education sectors and work with companies committed to social responsibility. As a Principal Software Engineer on the Aviato team, you will stay hands-on in the codebase while helping set technical direction within Platform team — writing and reviewing production code, driving automation and CI/CD across our .NET/C# and Azure-based services, and setting engineering standards within a DevSecOps culture. You will partner closely with product and engineering leadership to translate business strategy into technical strategy, while mentoring senior engineers and raising the bar for quality and operational excellence across the team. What you'll do ● Stay hands-on in the codebase — writing, reviewing, and shipping production-quality code as a core, ongoing part of the role ● Build automation leveraging CI/CD processes, automated testing, unit testing, code coverage, and other software development best practices ● Define and drive the technical architecture and roadmap for Aviato's platform, balancing scalability, reliability, and delivery speed ● Contribute to reusable automation scripts, libraries, services, and tools to increase system and process efficiencies ● Partner with security teams and tools to continually review new industry threats and quickly address vulnerabilities ● Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence, and hold the team accountable to them ● Pursue opportunities to further operational excellence by increasing efficiency and reducing risk, complexity, waste, and cost ● Partner with key stakeholders to establish technical direction and negotiate technical decision points to drive innovative solutions ● Identify systemic risks — technical debt, scalability limits, security gaps — before they become incidents, and drive the roadmap to address them ● Mentor and coach senior engineers, raising the technical bar across the Aviato team What we'll want you to have ● 10+ years of experience with common web technologies — JavaScript, C#, .NET, HTML, or other equivalent object-oriented languages ● Deep expertise in .NET/C# and hands-on experience architecting and operating production systems on Microsoft Azure, with an understanding of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS models ● Experience building high performance, scalable, robust, 24x7 environments and/or applications ● Experience creating scripts or automation — such as PowerShell, Python, or similar — for cloud orchestration (PowerShell preferred) ● Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority — driving alignment across engineers, managers, and executives ● Excellent written and verbal communication — able to write a design doc an exec will read and a runbook an on-call engineer will trust ● Ability to create quality code that is secure and operable at scale ● Willingness to work flexible or shift-based hours on an as-needed basis to support production incidents, releases, or global team collaboration Nice to Have ● Front-end experience with Angular and/or React as Aviato occasionally partners on UI work alongside its core platform and automation focus ● Experience with observability and tracing tools (e.g., Spunk, Honeycomb etc) and containerized application environments What We Offer ● Competitive compensation and comprehensive health insurance benefits ● A hybrid, flexible work model that supports both in-office collaboration and remote flexibility ● The opportunity to shape the technical direction of a growing platform team with real ownership India Location Our India location is a cornerstone of our global efforts, where innovation and collaboration come together to drive our mission forward.
