Amazon—Software Development Engineer I, Amazon Payments

Job description

Description: Are you a software engineer who is excited about writing clean, well-tested code that ships to production and impacts millions of customers? At Amazon, you will have the opportunity to build software that operates at massive scale while growing your technical skills alongside talented engineers. As a Software Development Engineer, you will contribute to the full lifecycle of software—from design and development through testing, deployment, and operations. You will tackle well-defined problems, learn new technologies and design patterns, and collaborate with your team to deliver solutions that create real value for customers. If you are a self-starter who thrives on learning and wants to make a meaningful impact early in your career, this is the role for you. Key job responsibilities - Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software components that are high-quality, well-tested, and production-ready, collaborating with your team across the full software development lifecycle. - Write logical, well-organized code using optimal data structures and algorithms, making thoughtful trade-offs between factors such as maintainability, efficiency, and complexity. - Participate in code reviews and operational support, helping identify root causes of issues and advocating for improvements to software quality and reliability. - Leverage generative artificial intelligence tools where appropriate to augment productivity, evaluating and refining outputs to ensure they meet quality standards and responsible practices. - Collaborate with team members to refactor and improve existing software, contributing to a codebase that is easy for others to understand, extend, and maintain. A day in the life You will start your day reviewing code changes from teammates and providing feedback during code reviews. From there, you might pick up a well-scoped feature, break it into components, and begin writing and testing your implementation. You will join standups and design discussions where you can ask questions, share progress, and learn from more experienced engineers. When operational issues arise, you will help troubleshoot and resolve them, building your understanding of the systems your team owns. About the team Our team is focused on building reliable, scalable software that directly improves the customer experience at Amazon. We value collaboration, continuous learning, and writing code we are proud of. You will work alongside engineers who are invested in helping you grow, whether through mentorship, pair programming, or constructive code reviews. We are excited about what lies ahead and are looking for curious, thoughtful engineers who want to grow with us. Requirements: - 1+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - Experience programming with at least one software programming language - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
