BCG—AI Engineer Senior Manager, Agent Workforce

Job description

Description: Who We Are Boston Consulting Group partners with leaders in business and society to tackle their most important challenges and capture their greatest opportunities. BCG was the pioneer in business strategy when it was founded in 1963. Today, we help clients with total transformation-inspiring complex change, enabling organizations to grow, building competitive advantage, and driving bottom-line impact. To succeed, organizations must blend digital and human capabilities. Our diverse, global teams bring deep industry and functional expertise and a range of perspectives to spark change. BCG delivers solutions through leading-edge management consulting along with technology and design, corporate and digital ventures—and business purpose. We work in a uniquely collaborative model across the firm and throughout all levels of the client organization, generating results that allow our clients to thrive. What You'll Do As the Technical Lead for Agentic Automation within Tech@BCG, you will define the technical direction for an enterprise AI platform that shifts common, repeatable tasks across Tech@BCG — spanning Change & Communications, User Research & Design, Enterprise Architecture, and other business-facing functions — onto a non-human, AI-driven workforce. You will design, build, and fine-tune the AI models and agent systems that power this workforce — including retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, prompt and context engineering, and evaluation frameworks for model quality and safety — while working in close partnership with Product Management and engineering leaders to identify which tasks are best suited for automation and translate that judgment into production-grade agents, built on practices such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and event-driven architectures, that improve throughput, consistency, and quality across the function. You will serve as the technical authority for AI architecture, establishing engineering standards, guiding implementation decisions, and mentoring engineers while driving the evolution from event-driven AI capabilities toward increasingly autonomous, multi-agent systems capable of owning end-to-end workflows with minimal human intervention. You will lead architecture reviews, evaluate emerging AI technologies, and ensure agentic systems are secure, resilient, observable, and aligned with enterprise architecture, governance, and Responsible AI principles — balancing the pace of automation with enterprise-grade reliability, oversight, and operational excellence. What You'll Bring - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline (must have); relevant AI or cloud certifications are a plus - 8+ years of software engineering experience, including demonstrated technical leadership designing and delivering enterprise-scale software platforms (must have). - Demonstrated expertise in enterprise AI, Generative AI, and intelligent agent architectures, with experience building secure, scalable, production-ready AI solutions on cloud-native, API-first, event-driven architectures across Azure and AWS (must have). - Hands-on experience fine-tuning and evaluating large language models, designing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, and working with vector databases and embedding models; fluent with OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, and Gemini APIs, the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and agent orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph or Semantic Kernel (must have) - Experience integrating AI agents into the platforms Tech@BCG teams rely on day to day — engineering tools such as Jira, Confluence, and CI/CD pipelines, alongside ITSM, ticketing, and internal knowledge systems — to automate common workflows end to end; proven ability to influence technical direction and mentor engineers (preferred). Who You'll Work With You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team focused on shifting common, repeatable work across Tech@BCG onto a non-human, AI-driven workforce. You'll partner closely with Product Management, Platform Engineering, Software Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, Security, and business-facing Tech@BCG teams to identify automation opportunities and deliver scalable AI capabilities, and will engage regularly with engineering leaders, architects, and technical specialists to establish standards, evolve platform capabilities, and drive adoption of agentic AI practices across the function. Additional info YOU'RE GOOD AT - Performing and managing rigorous, logical, and accurate analysis of complex AI model and agent-architecture challenges — identifying and framing problems in ambiguous model behavior, addressing root causes such as data or prompt quality, and drawing out innovative insights rather than surface-level fixes. - Writing clear and concise communications and leading conversations and meetings effectively — modulating your style to audience and context, actively listening, and driving to conclusions based on data and expertise to influence engineering leaders and cross-functional stakeholders. - Structuring, planning, and prioritizing complex technical work; anticipating and managing changing priorities while managing and delivering high-quality output that is mindful of impact on the broader business. - Partnering effectively with diverse teams and networks — Product Management, Platform Engineering, Security, and DevSecOps — while coaching engineers, creating opportunities for their development, and striking the right balance between empowerment and managerial direction. - Embracing change with adaptability and agility, bringing curiosity and creativity to continually evolve how the team works, while performing with the highest level of integrity and a growth mindset that generates trust across the organization. At BCG, our people and relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that in-person collaboration plays an important role in our culture, mentorship, and professional development. For this role, you will generally be expected to work from a BCG office or in person with clients on a regular basis (typically around 50% of working time), depending on business needs and in line with local policies and practices. We aim to provide a dynamic and collaborative environment that fosters connection and teamwork Boston Consulting Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
