Consultant - General Medicine

Job Description / Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of adult patients with acute and chronic medical conditions.
• Manage OPD, IPD, emergency referrals, and medical consultations for patients referred by other specialties.
• Conduct daily clinical rounds and develop appropriate investigation and treatment plans.
• Manage common medical conditions including diabetes, hypertension, infections, respiratory illnesses, gastrointestinal conditions, and other general medical disorders.
• Identify critically ill patients and coordinate timely transfer/escalation to ICU or appropriate specialty services.
• Work closely with Critical Care, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Emergency Medicine and other specialties for multidisciplinary patient management.
• Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation, prescriptions, discharge summaries, and patient records.
• Follow hospital protocols relating to patient safety, infection control, antibiotic stewardship, medication safety, and quality standards.
• Communicate diagnosis, treatment plans, prognosis, and follow-up requirements effectively to patients and families.
• Participate in mortality/morbidity reviews, clinical audits, quality-improvement initiatives, and departmental meetings.
• Support training and clinical guidance of junior doctors and other clinical team members.

• Participate in emergency/on-call coverage and contribute to continuity of General Medicine services as per departmental requirements.
