About the Team VNDLY, a Workday company, is a next-generation vendor management SaaS platform designed for procurement executives, talent acquisition teams, suppliers, and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to optimize contingent workforce management. We develop cloud software that simplifies talent sourcing and acquisition across various channels, including staffing agencies, job boards, and freelance management systems. Our aim is to create intuitive software that enables customers to efficiently acquire top talent (contractors or full-time employees) through data-driven insights and transparent dashboards.
As part of Workday, we are committed to becoming the most customer-centric enterprise software company in the world. We prioritize enabling our customers to connect to the talent they need to excel, achieved by fostering an exceptional engineering team committed to code quality and innovative design. About the Role
As a Software Development Engineer, you will be joining a team in Chennai responsible for maintaining and building our pay-related features. This is a hands-on-keyboard role where you will not only build features but also own the design, scalability, and resilience of critical services.
You will tackle complex challenges related to how contingent workers are onboarded, managed, and paid, working on key features like Jobs, Worker Provisioning, Contracts, and Integrations. You will be a key voice in our architectural decisions and will guide the team in building robust solutions using our stack: Python (backend), React (frontend), and AWS.
About You
This role is for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex software problems. The ideal candidate will join an established office of 15 VNDLY colleagues and will be at the forefront of building our engineering presence as part of Workday's larger investment in Chennai!
Beyond a desire for solving complex and writing high-quality, efficient code, this person must be an exceptional communicator, acting as a key technical connection between our established U.S. teams and the new Chennai office. The ability to work independently, while also working effectively within a large, distributed team, is essential.
Basic Qualifications
4+ years shown experience in software development, including experience in designing, building, and maintaining RESTful web services and working with SQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
Deep proficiency in Python and experience with at least one Python web framework (e.g., Django, Flask).
Strong experience with JavaScript frameworks, specifically React.js.
Other Qualifications
Proficient understanding of code versioning tools (e.g., Git).
Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda).
Knowledge of SaaS applications, multi-tenant architectures, and DevOps/CI/CD practices.
Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.

Our Approach to Flexible Work
With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.
Workday is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals during our application process, in order to perform one or more essential functions of their job, as well as regarding the use of AI tools for employment decision-making to any degree. Please see below for more details including how to request an accommodation as a qualified veteran, due to a disability or for religious reasons, or as otherwise provided under applicable law.
Workday prohibits taking adverse action against any candidate or employee for reporting a possible violation of this policy, requesting one or more work accommodations, exercising a privacy right, or cooperating in an investigation in accordance with applicable law. Any employee who retaliates against a candidate or employee for doing so may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, to the fullest extent allowable under applicable law.
If you require a reasonable accommodation, you may email accommodations@workday.com, as far in advance as possible.
